My Role

I joined the Sigiriya team in February 2019 in a unofficial intern-like role. During this time I aided in design input and some project decision making but was primarily responsible for contributing narrative content and input. During this time I contributed a Quest Design Document used to create an in-house only game demo.

Through May 2019, and to be continued through the 2019 summer season, my role on the project shifted to lead content designer. In this role I was primarily responsible for the creation and organization of in-game content. My role also included working closely with the lead system designer to ensure my work reflected their designed system. Sigiriya employed a uniquely designed dialogue system that “looped” rather than “branched”. This system was intended to approximate the flow of real conversation, preventing the player from “locking” themself down a single given path of branches.

My various contributions to this project may be viewed here (opens in new tab) in the form of character profile. Other examples of my work also be accessed in a .zip file format here.

What Is It?

Sigiriya is a mobile game that saw development at Rad Magpie Studios in Burlington, Vermont. The vision of Sigiriya comes directly from Mary Anne Mohanraj, a professor at the University of Chicago and an accomplished author.

The story of Sigiriya has the player take the role of The Architect, the individual tasked with overseeing the construction of the fortress at Sigiriya Rock. The events take place in 477 C.E. when King Kashyapa I ordered the construction of a palace and fortress at Sigiriya. The game focuses on the relationship between The Architect and the inhabitants of Sigiriya as they all navigate life during the construction.
