Postmortem: A Brief Reflection
The past 3 months of development on Camera Shy have been, in my opinion, an excellent experience. I felt that the team overall had a good energy to it, everyone worked well together and everyone was happy with one another. I’ve worked on teams in the past where personality and working styles have clashed, causing major production issues. Not the case here.
Overall I felt like the work the team completed was quite consistent. Things that could be improved upon were small, and didn’t cause large problems with the production cycle of the game. The little stuff was mostly communication related; people not asking enough questions or not reading/writing appropriate documentation. These little communication slip-ups just caused some kinks in the pipeline between disciplines or the team as a whole but never caused major issues.
As for me as an individual, I feel good about what I contributed to this project overall. I found a lot of relief in not being a project lead. It was incredibly nice to just worry about how the spaces looked and played in Camera Shy rather than having to be on top of every little thing about the game as a design lead might. I really got a chance to just focus in on my specialization and do a good job with building the spaces.
I will leave this project behind with the importance of interpersonal relationships on a team in mind. I truly feel that Camera Shy would not have gone nearly as well if any other team was working on it. The mix of personalities brought on to the team in January created a relaxed and healthy atmosphere that was truly a pleasure to be a part of.
